#Literacy: Media, Information, and Technology Literacy

Come to think about it, won't you agree that we have truly come a long way especially when it comes to achieving countless advancements and breakthroughs in Science. Nowadays, we can simply send messages and relay valuable information to other individuals at a click of a button, it's that easy. The convenience and comfort that we have right now is just incomparable in contrast to the way we had lived in the olden days where we had to go through so many steps and processes before we are able to share the information that we had to the world. The technology and the media in the present time have certainly made it so much easier to communicate with anyone and everyone in the whole wide world.

Literacy is defined as the competence or knowledge in a specified field or area. It does not merely mean having the ability to read and write, but instead, the ability, confidence, and willingness to engage with language to acquire, construct, and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living.

Tie that in today's 21st century way of living, and voila! You have media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy...

Each and every single one of these has their own unique and distinct properties that separate them from one another, but also, they very much relate and coincide with one another which help them complement each other. Now, let's define and differentiate each one.

When we are talking about media literacy, it simply refers to the 21st century approach to education. It provides a framework to access, analyze, evaluate, create and participate with messages in a variety of forms — from print to video to the Internet. Media literacy builds an understanding of the role of media in society as well as essential skills of inquiry and self-expression necessary for citizens of a democracy.

Next up is information literacy, and it involves recognizing when information is needed and being able to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate information in various formats.  It refers to the ability to navigate the rapidly growing information environment, which encompasses an increasing number of information suppliers as well as the amount supplied, and includes bodies of professional literature, popular media, libraries, the Internet, and much more.

Last but not the least is technology literacy, and it is defined as the ability to use, manage, understand, and assess technology. Technology literacy is the ability to effectively use technology to access, evaluate, integrate, create and communicate information to enhance the learning process through problem-solving and critical thinking.

Being able to have and aqcuire great knowledge about these certain things will not only guide you in being much smarter in how you behave and interact with the world out there, but also, it will utterly help you in spreading awareness in how these specific things can be of great help to all individuals for the purpose of helping mankind.
